Cola is a beautiful 3 year old sable and white Rat Terrier, weighing in at 20 lbs. Originally selected for our breeding program, Cola showed us that while she's possibly our most striking example of her breed, her temperament didn't quite meet the standards we set for our original program. Because of this, were looking for the perfect forever home where Cola can thrive as a beloved companion and possible rating dog.

Temperament and Needs: Cola is incredibly intelligent and alert with a strong prey drive- true to her breed. She thrives with structure and consistency, and needs an experienced dog owner who understands the importance of clear boundaries and ongoing training. Cola has been raised around our pack of breeding dogs but has not been full socialized with unfamiliar dogs, so we recommend a home where she will be the only dog.
She is not aggressive, but she can be reactive in uncertain situations, which is why a calm, confident handler is essential. She would do best in a home without a small animals, cats, or young children due to her high prey drive and need for consistent discipline.

LITTLE SOLDIER RAT TERRIERS
The Rat Terrier is an American dog breed with a background as a farm dog and hunting companion. Traditionally more of a type than a breed, they share much ancestry with the small hunting dogs known as Feists. Common throughout family farms in the 1920s and 1930s, they are now recognized by the United and American Kennel Clubs and are considered a rare breed. Today's Rat Terrier is an intelligent and active small dog that is kept both for pest control and as a family pet.

Loki is a very energetic, agile and intelligent rat terrier. His qualities are what a textbook rat terrier would encompass. Loki has a high prey drive so breeding with a more mild tempered Dam such as Piper is ideal for the RT's we are striving for at Little Soldier Rat Terriers
Esther is a Type B Rat Terrier also communally known as Teddy Roosevelt Terriers. her build is more sturdy and low to the ground as opposed to a type A Rat Terrier. Esther is playful, very smart and extra cuddly. We are looking forward to breed Esther with or Stud Loki as the mix between the type A and B will produce an optimal body size for an elegant yet sturdy Rattie.

In our search for a female rat terrier we came across this beautiful Merlequin coated gem. Piper is a very sweet and mild tempered RT that still has all of the amazing qualities of a great rat terrier with a slight tilt towards a calmer temperament making her suitable for breeding and raising pups!
Zipper is a Black and Tan Rattie that has some very unique traits that separates her from our other females. Although zipper is very energetic, agile and playful, her temperament is very mild and soft. She is what we call a "people dog" as she is gentle and submissive to her owners. Zipper is a small rat terrier (11 lbs) much like our retired dam Piper..
Rat Terriers were cherished as loyal hunting companions and efficient killers of vermin on 20th century American farms: as a result, they were one of the most popular dog types from the 1920s to the 1940s. However the widespread use of chemical pesticides and the growth of commercial farming led to a sharp decline in the breed from the 1950s onwards. Breed loyalists maintained the bloodline, leading to the modern Rat Terrier.
A rat terrier holds the rat killing record of 2501 rats in a seven hour period in an infested barn. President Theodore Roosevelt hunted with these dogs and even kept some in the White House. He is credited with naming them rat terriers.

Our Current Dam and Sire
At Little Soldier Rat Terriers our breeding dogs live in our home. They are first and foremost our pets and we treat them as such. On top of being fantastic breeding dogs they experience the same lifestyle of many other house pets. We emphasize exercise on a daily basis at our home located on the outskirts of Marmora and Lake where our pets enjoy running on our 1.5 acre lot. Our rural environment allows us to run our rat terriers off leash while keeping them safe. Meet our Dam and Sire below!
