Some important things to consider before bringing your rat terrier home

Pee Pad

Pee pads are a must when training your pup.  Place them close to their sleeping area as most pups will need to go in the morning and immediately after waking from a nap.  Pads are about 25.00 for a pack of 100 on amazon.  Also note they are much cleaner and more durable then newspaper.

Dog Bed

This particular dog bed will place nicely in the crate size mentioned above.  This bed is on the expensive side at 38.00 but has a removable washable cover . The beds core is memory foam so it does eliminate pressure points better than a regular pillow.  I would hold off on a bed like this until you know your pup wont tare it apart!  Our Stud Loki loves to remove his bedding from his crate for no particular reason.

Play pen

We don't really recommend play pens for rat terriers but if your in need of something in the house to contain your dog this is the pen we use for our pups.  It can also fold into two square crates if you require that.  These cost about 70.00

Crate

Crate training terriers is a must in our opinion.  This gives them a sense of stability and safety.  Remember these are den animals and mimicking their  natural habitat of a small den works very well when training. These crates are about 47.00 on amazon.  They can be folded for travelling and cleaning.  What ever crate you choose have the dimensions around 30 x 19 x 21 inches (LxWxH).  This will allow for a full size rat terrier.

Harness

Rat terriers like to pull, rip, sprint and jump whenever they get the chance so a secure harness will work better than a leash.  You can always upgrade after you have trained your ratty to properly walk on a harness

Dollarama

Dog bones

Everyone has there own opinion on dog bones.  We are fairly simple, as long as its 100% rawhide we are good.  Ratty's can go through bones very quickly and this brand from dollarama is only 2.50 per pack!  if you find something cheaper and the same quality let me know! Note: be careful with bones as puppies will try to swallow them before they are fully broken down.  Our ratty Charlie likes to swallow them when they are only half way done!?!
